Rebecca's review — SEAT Ibiza Fr Sport petrol (2022–2024)

Overview
The hot hatch look without the hot hatch bill
The SEAT Ibiza FR Sport sits right at the sweet spot of the used market — sporty enough to feel like a reward, sensible enough to run every day. It is aimed squarely at younger buyers and first-time owners, but honestly it flatters anyone who wants a small car that does not feel small. Sharp, well-built for its class, and genuinely good to live with. This one earns its place on the shortlist.
Outside
It still turns heads. That is not nothing.
SEAT gave the Ibiza FR Sport a properly assertive face — deeper front bumper, side skirts, gloss black details, and alloys that actually suit the body rather than looking like an afterthought. The proportions are tight and low-slung without being aggressive. Several years on, it has aged cleanly. Strong colours like the FR-specific reds and greys still look deliberate rather than dated. It photographs well and it looks even better in the metal.
Inside
The cabin feels a class above the price tag
Climb inside and the quality impresses immediately — soft-touch materials on the surfaces you actually touch, clear instruments, and FR Sport sport seats with decent side bolstering that hold you in place without clamping you. Visibility is good, the driving position adjusts well, and the boot is genuinely useful for a supermini. Rear-seat headroom is better than you expect. Everything feels solid rather than plasticky, which at this size and this price is not guaranteed.
Tech
The screen is the size of your face. Nearly.
The FR Sport comes with an eight-inch infotainment screen that runs wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto — and in everyday use those two things matter far more than any of the built-in menus. You also get digital instruments, lane-keeping assistance, front collision warning, and automatic emergency braking as standard. The reversing camera has a clean image. Everything responds quickly. None of it requires a manual to operate, which is exactly how it should be.
Driving
A one-litre engine that makes you forget it is a one-litre
The FR Sport runs the 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol in its stronger states of tune, and it pulls with real confidence from low revs. The DSG automatic is slick if you have that, but the manual is just as satisfying — short, precise throw. Ride comfort is firm but never harsh over typical British roads. At motorway speed it settles and quietens nicely. Through a bend it steers with real feedback. It simply feels alive, which plenty of cars at this size manage not to.
Running
Fifty miles to the gallon is a realistic daily figure
Running costs are one of the strongest arguments for this car. Real-world fuel economy sits around the fifty miles per gallon mark on a mixed run, which makes it genuinely cheap at the pump. The Ibiza sits in modest insurance groups even in FR Sport trim, which younger drivers will appreciate. Servicing follows a fixed-interval schedule that most independents can handle at reasonable cost. SEAT's reliability record with this generation is solid, and parts are shared across the wider Volkswagen Group.
Verdict
Check the infotainment software version and the service history
Worth a quick look at the service history, the condition of the sport seats, and whether the software is on the latest version before you commit. Beyond that, this is a genuinely easy recommendation. The Ibiza FR Sport gets the balance right — it looks the part, drives with real enjoyment, runs on very little, and holds together well over the years. If you want a small car with a bit of character, this is the one to have.
