Rebecca's review — Land Rover Range Rover Evoque R-dynamic S hybrid (2022–2024)

Overview
Premium SUV money. Half the premium SUV depreciation.
The Range Rover Evoque R-Dynamic S hybrid sits in that sweet spot where Land Rover's desirability does the heavy lifting for you. It is a genuinely premium compact SUV with hybrid efficiency, a badge that still turns heads, and enough equipment to embarrass cars costing far more. If you want something refined, practical, and a little bit special for the school run or the long weekend away, this is absolutely worth your attention.
Outside
Seven years on and people still stare.
Land Rover got the design absolutely right with this generation. The low roofline, muscular haunches, and that distinctive sloping rear still look contemporary rather than dated. The R-Dynamic trim adds darker detailing that sharpens the whole thing up nicely. Find one in Hakuba Silver or Carpathian Grey and it looks like it rolled out of the showroom last Tuesday. The 20-inch alloys fill the arches just so.
Inside
You will not believe what used money buys you in here.
Climb in and the quality hits you immediately. The Ebony leather, the stitched dashboard, the way everything sits flush and solid — it feels expensive because it is. The front seats are supportive on long journeys without being restrictive around town. Rear leg room is genuinely usable for adults. The boot is a proper rectangle with a good lip-free load floor, and the split tailgate is one of those things you very quickly take for granted.
Tech
This much screen used to cost twice the price.
The Pivi Pro infotainment system is one of the better setups in this class — quick, logically laid out, and responsive to the touch. Wireless Apple CarPlay works a treat. The hybrid system's energy display tells you exactly what the car is doing at any given moment, which is genuinely satisfying rather than gimmicky. Adaptive cruise control with lane centring makes motorway miles almost effortless. These features have aged well.
Driving
Smoother than you expect. Quieter than you expect.
The mild hybrid system pairs beautifully with the smooth nine-speed automatic gearbox. Around town it harvests energy and keeps the engine off more than you'd think, so it feels remarkably hushed for a small SUV. On the motorway, refinement is genuinely impressive — wind and road noise are well suppressed. The ride absorbs urban bumps without drama, and when you want to press on a country road, the Evoque obliges with more composure than its tall stance suggests.
Running
The hybrid pays for itself faster than most people realise.
Real-world fuel economy in the mid-to-upper forties is genuinely achievable with a light right foot, which makes a meaningful difference over a year of ownership. Land Rover's fixed-price service plans take the uncertainty out of maintenance costs. Insurance sits in a reasonable group for what the car is. Parts availability is strong across the network. Owners who keep on top of the servicing history report very straightforward, pleasant ownership — and that reputation is well earned here.
Verdict
Check the service history, the battery health warning light, and the t
Run a quick check on the service stamps, glance at the battery health warning light on startup, and inspect the tyre wear for any alignment hints — done in five minutes. After that, you are looking at one of the most complete used compact SUVs you can find right now. Refined, beautiful, genuinely efficient, and loaded with technology that still feels current. If you want a car that rewards you every single time you get in, the Evoque R-Dynamic S hybrid is the one to have.
