Rebecca's review — Ford Ranger Wildtrak 4x4 diesel (2019–2021)
Our verdict on this model. Ask Rebecca below about this particular car.
Overview
A pickup that actually works as a daily driver
The Ranger Wildtrak is the pickup that cracked the formula most others miss. It works on a building site on Monday and on a motorway on Friday, and it does neither job with any sense of compromise. The Wildtrak trim sits right in the sweet spot of the range — properly specced, properly capable, and now available used at a price that makes a lot of sense for a lot of people.
Outside
Still looks new. It's seven years old.
Ford got the styling right first time. The Wildtrak has its own orange detailing, bespoke alloys, and a stance that feels purposeful without being shouty. The body lines have aged very well — there is nothing on this truck that dates it. Dark colours wear especially well on this generation, and the chrome delete on the Wildtrak keeps it looking sharp rather than flashy.
Inside
The back seats fit real adults. Genuinely.
Climb in and the first thing you notice is the commanding driving position — you can see everything, and it feels immediately confidence-inspiring. The Wildtrak gets soft-touch materials where your hands actually land, and the seats are supportive on long runs. Rear legroom is genuinely generous, and the load bed is one of the most practical spaces you can get on any vehicle at this price point.
Tech
Apple CarPlay came as standard. On a pickup.
The Wildtrak trim brings a proper eight-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which keeps it feeling current even now. Ford's SYNC3 interface responds quickly and is genuinely easy to use on the move. You also get a reversing camera, front and rear parking sensors, and adaptive cruise control — things that make a vehicle this size feel far less daunting to live with every single day.
Driving
Two-litre diesel. It pulls like a train.
The two-litre EcoBlue diesel is a strong unit — torquey low down, which is exactly what you want in a truck. The ten-speed automatic gearbox is smooth and always seems to find the right ratio. Refinement on the motorway is better than you'd expect, and Ford's suspension tuning gives this generation a noticeably more car-like ride than older Rangers. Switch it into four-wheel drive and it is seriously capable off-road too.
Running
You can service this almost anywhere in the country
Ford's dealer and independent garage network is enormous, so servicing is straightforward and competitively priced. The EcoBlue diesel returns real-world fuel economy that is respectable for a vehicle of this size, especially on a run. Insurance groupings are reasonable, and the Ranger holds its value better than almost any equivalent at this end of the market, which means if you buy sensibly, you will sell sensibly too.
Verdict
Check the load bed, the service history, and the cambelt
Before you buy, just confirm the service history is complete, the load bed liner is intact, and the cambelt interval has been respected — one brisk look and you are sorted. Beyond that, this is a genuinely brilliant used buy. It is comfortable enough for the school run, tough enough for a work site, and capable enough for a weekend away with a trailer. If you need one vehicle to do everything, the Ranger Wildtrak is the answer.
